About Me

Videographer. Filmmaker. Editor.

Doug is a professor and a sociologist with a love of the arts and documentary storytelling. Over 15 years ago, he got his training as a documentarian and filmmaker at NYU's School of Continuing Education, at Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies, and at the Maine Media Workshops. Soon after, he began making documentary films along with his wife and filmmaking partner Laurie Challenger and they founded their own freelance video production business called Chrysalis Media Arts, working with his university producing documentary style marketing videos and working with other organizations and businesses to help them translate their goals into emotional narratives and social media strategies that are authentic and have significant public impact.

Most recently they produced a feature length documentary that chronicles the journey of a group of college students and their faculty leaders walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail in Spain on a semester study abroad. The film was accepted into the Monadnock International Film Festival and the subject of an episode on the International Camino Podcast by Dan Mullins.  An earlier documentary, From Hurricane to Climate Change was featured at the New Hampshire Film Festival, the SNOB Film Festival and played on NH PBS.

While filming, they focus on capturing the essence of a story and the passion and character of their clients, whether they are outdoor clothing producers, wholesale food corporations, local artists, or visionary educators.

Doug and Laurie currently live in Western Massachusetts, USA.
